Packing for Singapore during December could be a daunting task, especially if you have no idea about what to wear in Singapore in December. To make things easier for you, we provide you some packing suggestions and a little insight into Singapore’s December weather.
Weather of Singapore in December
The only thing that you need to keep in mind about Singapore’s weather is that it is always hot and humid and rains are an everyday phenomenon here. Singapore has a rainforest climate as it lies in the equatorial zone and it doesn’t have any seasonal variations, i.e., you can never tell if it is summer or winter as the weather is always the same. However, it does experience variations in terms of monsoons as southwest monsoon season (June until September) and northeast monsoon season (December until March). December marks the beginning of northeast monsoon season and hence the island will be even wetter than previous months and humidity would be peaking, too!
What to Wear and How to Pack for Singapore in December?
Even though December signifies a cold month for Indian subcontinent, Singapore remains unaffected by this season. The only change it undergoes is more frequent rains. Even the temperature hovers between 27 to 29 degrees Celsius throughout the year. Here are some packing suggestions:
Women – There is no need to go completely formal as this is quite a casual city and you can go around in loose cotton shirts and capris. The only thing you should take care of is to pack light clothes or sheer clothes that let air pass through and dry off quickly. Cotton tops or sheer blouses would be perfect and you can pair them up with linen capris, three-fourth pants, skirts or knee-length shorts. Don’t forget to carry a sweater or a cardigan as most of the buildings have strong air-conditioners.
Men – You, too, can dress up pretty informally in shorts and t-shirts. You can go for polo shirts and chinos or vests and Bermuda shorts. A full-sleeve shirt and cotton trousers or linen pants (both full) will also be required for special events. Do carry a lightweight jacket or sweater so that you have something to cover yourself up with when entering malls and other public buildings.
Kids – No matter what you pack, make sure it is in cotton or any other fabric that absorbs sweat and dries quickly. You can pack skirts and shorts along with tunics and blouses for girls. Boys can go for trousers or khaki pants with shirts and t-shirts. Shorts can also be packed along with a light jacket or sweater for reasons mentioned above.
Footwear – The first thing you should consider while packing footwear is comfort. You will have a hard time if you pack shoes that torture your feet. So, carry something comfy like ballet flats, gladiators, or loafers and trainers. You can pack a pair of formal shoes and heels for special events.
Accessories – Majority of population here is Muslim, so ladies can carry a pashmina or a scarf to cover up at certain places. It will also help you if you feel cold inside malls.
