It is always difficult to pack for a trip to Cape Town or anywhere else for that matter. You can find extremely organized and experienced individuals willing to pack your bags for a fistful of dollars on Task Rabbit. Live smarter. Get things done easily, reliably and quickly.
You are going to need some walking shoes.
Sunglasses are extremely essential items when you are going to Cape Town and you should always bring a few of them.
I don’t think you should pack any clothes if you are going to Africa, which means I don’t have many outfit ideas for you at this point in time for this location.
Cape Town February Weather
A subtropical location surrounded by ocean on three sides of the country and the altitude of the interior plateau are the reasons why this country offers a warm temperature extremely popular with its many foreign visitors.
South Africa is famous for its sunshine.
Temperatures in South Africa are usually lower than in other countries located at similar latitudes like Australia.
South Africa’s coastal regions are warmest in the winter because they are located in the southern hemisphere.
Yes, this means you can spend Christmas on the beach.
Autumn in South Africa offers the best weather. There is almost no rain in the whole country and it is warm but not too warm.
In Cape Town, autumn is great. A lot of people are having a lot of fun outside.
What to wear if you are a woman
You don’t need to be packing any dresses.
One thing you need to understand when you are traveling to Africa are the immigrants. In the case of South Africa you have desperate people coming to South Africa from Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Mozambique, where they usually made $5,636, $7,120, $905 and $593 each year on average respectively.
That $600 Prada handbag you have can get you killed in South Africa. That kind of cash is literally enough to feed a whole family for a whole year. Be careful what you bring to Cape Town.

In Cape Town, many people don’t buy clothes at Wal-Mart like we do. They know how to make the clothes by themselves. It’s not a bad idea to go to the local market to get your own fabrics and hire a single mother to make a nice dress for you and your child.
You can probably dress a dozen people with the same cash that you usually pay at JC Penny. (JCP)
I am not surprised that they lost $152 million in 2012, $985 million in 2013 and $1,388 million in 2014.
I also suggest you to pack a large box filled with as much yarn as you can. Keep in mind South Africa currently has extremely high unemployment at more than 25% and you can easily hire some people to make you a few sweaters or whatever you may need for a very small amount of cash.
What to wear if you are a man
You don’t need to bring any shiny new clothes with you or any internationally known brands like Lacoste, Yves Saint Laurent or Eddie Bauer.
You don’t want to attract the attention of the common criminals within the city.
AM Bespoke was founded in South Africa in 2003. You don’t even have to fly to South Africa anymore to get a suit. You can now make an appointment if you live in New York or Miami.
What to wear if you are a minor
Just go to the local flea market and buy whatever you need. You can buy a lot of used clothes in these regions with $100
I also suggest you to sell all the clothes back to the same retailer a day before you are heading back home. You are not going to wear any of these fine products ever again.
Nobody knows more about globe-trotting than the National Geographic Society, which has been around us since 1888. If you are not currently a 21 Century Fox (FOX, FOXA) shareholder then you should buy a few shares each month. They will pay you at least $100 each month assuming you hold at least 4,800 shares which should be more than enough to pay for your satellite or cable bill.
Sadly, the National Geographic Channel barely reaches 73.95% of the households in the United States of America.
Cape Town Travel Basics is an extremely useful article.
Like almost every country in Africa. South Africa is poor and each person barely makes $6,621 each year on average according to the International Monetary Fund.
South Africa currently has one of the highest car hijacking rates in the world.
In fact, car hijackings are so high in some parts of the country that Holland Insurance, a large insurance company in South Africa with more than 2,000 employees decided to stop selling auto insurance for all Volkswagen Citi Golfs, a popular choice among car thieves.
You should avoid regular taxis if you are in Cape Town and use Uber exclusively. However, you should never use the uberBlack service which is more expensive because you don’t want to be followed by organized criminals.
Use the uberX option instead. The minimum charge is only $20 ZAR (Rands) or less than $2 USD (Dollars)
There is war among taxi drivers down there and you don’t want to get caught in the middle. They all want your cash and tourists are murdered daily.
I strongly suggest you to hire a couple of unemployed strong, tall and scary individuals, watch your back while you are in Cape Town. Recently released non-violent criminals are a very good choice for this sort of thing. In more civilized parts of the world we are used to handguns and aluminum baseball bats. Here you should buy a machete to each of your newly hired bodyguards.
Tattoos also work.
Nobody will mess with you.
Make sure all your bags can be traced by a military satellite that is parked outside this planet. There are many electronic devices available to consumers. Here is one.
I strongly suggest you to buy a second emergency phone. Unlike your Apple iPhone or your Samsung Galaxy phone, these phones are designed only for one thing: To make a phone call to the Police Department. You need to memorize the right number for each country that you are entering.
Emergency phones keep getting smaller each year. You should wear it at all times just in case you need it. The criminals will take your regular phone but they won’t suspect you have a second phone with you. These phones can save your life.
This is better explained in the film Taken 2 starring Liam Neeson and you can stream it for just $2.99 right here.
Right now the smallest phone in the entire world is the Willcom WX06A with a weight of only 32 grams.
There are always smart people building a smaller version of the classic cellular phone. Check the TiniTel for children coming this April 2015.
If you have been waiting for a very good reason to go to the luggage store and get a trunk exactly like the one Joe Banks played by Tom Hanks in the comedy film Joe versus the Volcano had then Cape Town is your best chance.
Don’t bring anything, besides four of these babies. You are going to fill them with a lot of cool things.
If you are like me and you also like to travel heavy then you really should buy the book Luis Vuitton: 100 Legendary Trucks: The History of the Travel Trunk.
Best South African Films
You don’t have to go to South Africa to watch these films anymore. Thanks to Reed Hastings, Jeff Bezos, Beth Com stock and Sam Walton.
I am a huge fan of South African films.
I strongly suggest you to watch the film District 9 if you have not seen it yet. In my humble opinion, this film should be included in the book. This film was nominated in 2008 for several Academy Awards including Best Motion Picture of the Year; Best Writing, Adapted Screenplay; Best Achievement in Film Editing and Best Achievement in Visual Effects.
I also recommend the film Elysium starring Academy Award Winner Matt Damon, Academy Award Winner Jodie Foster and Diego Luna.
The film Chappie is coming in a couple of months.
I hope this article can help you to decide what to pack.
